About Michael

Meet Michael

My name is Michael Zavala. I am married to a wonderful woman and we have three beautiful children together. I have four amazing parents and am the oldest of six siblings. This complex family dynamic has provided me with a wide range of relationship experiences throughout my lifetime.

I first started my college career at Chemeketa Community College. Finished my undergraduate degree at George Fox University. I continued on to Graduate School at George Fox University in the Marriage, Couples, and Family counseling program. I earned a Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Fun Facts

I used to play football, basketball, rugby, and paintball. I was most successful in my paintball career and won two national titles and one world championship. These team sports have given many growth opportunities for social development and team building, and created a sense of belonging to a community.

Interests

I enjoy many outdoor activities such as fly fishing, hiking, backpacking, camping, disc golf, and pickleball. I always encourage mother nature to be a part of the therapy process.

I love tabletop games such as Dungeons and Dragons, Critical Core, and Warhammer. I first discovered these games when I was helping a family move into the neighborhood. They introduced me to the joy of tabletop games. I learned, through Game to Grow, how to incorporate these games into a therapeutic program.
